BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The top-seeded Northampton men's volleyball team advanced to the Region 19 championship with a 25-23,25-19, 25-22 victory over 4th seeded Union County College on Wednesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Ramon Romero (San Pedro Sula, Hondurus/Liceo Billingue (HN)) was credited with 11 kills, 13 digs, 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists, while
Zach Franges (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) notched 25 assists.
"Really competitive match, Union gave us all we could handle," remarked Head Coach
Rachael Aquila, "we put ourselves in a hole a couple times, but we were able to dig out and earn the win and advance."
Matteo Mowrey (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had 20 digs and
Alex Schoenen (Northampton, PA/Northampton) recorded 9 kills, 7 digs, 3 solo blocks and 2 block assists.
The Spartans, now 14-1 overall, will host the Region 19 championship on Saturday at 12pm. They will face the winner of #2 Ocean County College and #3 Atlantic Cape Community College, who are scheduled to meet on Thursday evening in Toms River, NJ.
Union falls to 18-14 overall.
