BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 4th ranked Northampton baseball team dropped the first game of their three game series vs. #3 Brookdale, falling 7-3 on Friday afternoon at Spartan Park.
Ethan Woods (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) suffered the loss on the mound, allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits over 6.1 innings. Woods, who falls to 3-2 on the season, struck out 4 and walked 5.
Ben Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) threw the final 2.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 1 K.
John Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) was 3 for 4 with a double, triple and stolen base, while
Robert Furino (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) finished 2 for 3 with a RBI.
Samuel Martinez (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) opened the scoring in the 1st inning for Northampton, belting a run-scoring double to get the Spartans on the board.
"Tough one today," expressed Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "too many little mistakes and missed opportunities and you can't have those against a team like Brookdale. We will regroup and be ready for the doubleheader tomorrow."
The loss drops Northampton to 19-4 overall ann 7-3 in the Region.
The Jersey Blues improve to 21-2 overall and 15-2 in Region 19.
Games two and three are set for Saturday in Lincroft, NJ, with first pitch scheduled for noon.
