MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton baseball team picked up two more victories on the final day of their spring trip, downing St. Clair Community College (MI) 13-6 and Minnesota North - Itasca (MN) 3-2 on Thursday at the Ripken Complex.
GAME ONE vs. St. Clair CC (Won 13-6)
Gabriel Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris (NJ)) led the offense with a 3 for 3 performance, including a homerun, 2 RBI and a 3 runs scored.
Samuel Martinez (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) finished 2 for 4 with a homerun and 2 RBI and
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) added 2 hits as the Spartans outhit St. Clair 11 to 6.
Gavin Panovec (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) picked up his 1st win of the season on the mound, giving up 3 runs on 2 hits over 5 innings of work, walking 4 and striking out 1.
McGwire Heverly (Bald Eagle, PA/Bald Eagle) and
Ellis Snow (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) threw the final 2 innings in relief, allowing 3 runs.
GAME TWO vs. Minnesota North - Itasca (Won 3-2)
In a tight contest,
Austin Beard (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) improved to 2-1 on the season, scattering 4 hits over 6 innings of work, allowing 2 runs while fanning 10.
Ethan Woods (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) pitched a scoreless 7th to earn his 1st save of the season.
Alexander Ruiz (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) was 1 for 2 with a RBI and
John Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) went 1 for 2 with a run scored and a RBI to pace the Spartans at the plate.
The Spartans head home to Pennsylvania with an overall record of 11-1, including a 9-1 mark during their 10-game spring trip.
Next up for Northampton is the start of Region 19 play as the Spartans will face Salem Community College in a 3-game series set to kick-off on Friday March 15th in Bethlehem with a single 9-inning game at 3:30pm. The two teams will then face off in a doubleheader on Saturday in Carney's Point, NJ.
