BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The #1 ranked Northampton baseball team extended their winning streak to 16 games with two victories on Saturday over RCSJ-Cumberland, to complete the series sweep. After winning game one in Vineland on Friday, the Spartans took game two 14-4 and finished the sweep with a 5-4 victory in game three.
GAME TWO - Won 14-4
Gabriel Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris (NJ)) was 3-3 with 2 runs scored, a pair of doubles and 4 RBI to lead another double-digit hit attack, as the Spartans downed RCSJ-Cumberland, 14-4.
John Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) was 2-3 with 3 RBI,
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) went 2-2 with 2 runs scored and a RBI and
Luis Beato (Bethlehem, PA/Muhlenberg) was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and a pair of doubles.
Austin Beard (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) picked up his 8th win on the season scattering 5 hits in 5 innings of work and collecting 6 strikeouts. The 6 K's allowed Beard to break the program single season career record for strikeouts (70), held by Tyler Forbes (2017). Beard now has 73 strikeouts on the season.
GAME THREE - Won 5-4
Starter
Ethan Woods (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) worked through a tough 1st inning to pick up his 5th win of the year, going 5.2 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits, walking 5 and striking out 3.
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) earned the save, pitching the final 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out 3.
Ratti finished 2 for 2 at the plate with a RBI, walk and run scored.
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored, a RBI, a walk and 2 stolen bases.
The Spartans improve to 35-4 overall and 23-3 in Region 19.
Cumberland falls to 16-14 overall and 10-11 in the Region.
Northampton returns to Spartan Field on Sunday to host the Mustangs of Montgomery County at 12pm.
