TOMS RIVER, NJ - The nation's #1 team picked up another shutout victory on Friday afternoon, blanking the Ocean County College Vikings, 14-0, at Cohen Field, in game one of their Region 19 series.
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) earned the win on the bump, throwing 7.0 innings of shutout baseball, striking out 7 and walking 6. Ratti improves to 5-0 on the season.Â
Gavin Panovec (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) finished off the 8th, allowing 2 hits, no runs and fanning 2.Â
The Spartans had 15 hits and 10 walks in the victory, led by
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) who finished 3 for 5 with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk and 3 stolen bases.Â
Robert Furino (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, 2 walks and 2 runs scored,
Gabriel Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris (NJ)) went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI and
John Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI.Â
The win moves Northampton to 38-5 overall and 26-3 in Region 19. The 38 wins mark a single-season program record for the Spartans.
Ocean falls to 17-15 overall and 14-12 in the Region.Â
The Spartans and Vikings will play games two and three of their series on Saturday in Bethlehem, with the first pitch slated for noon.
