SEWELL, NJ - The 2nd seeded Northampton baseball team dropped both games of the Region 19 / North Atlantic District Championship on Sunday to top-seeded RCSJ-Gloucester, finishing as the Region 19 Runners-up.
The Spartans, who advanced to the winner's bracket side of the championship by defeating #3 Brookdale, 12-10, and #1 RCSJ-Gloucester, 11-4, on Friday, never got on-track Sunday vs. the Roadrunners. Â
RCSJ-Gloucester defeated Brookdale in an elimination game at 10am to advance to the championship, where they would face the unbeaten Spartans, needing to defeat them twice to win the Region title.Â
GAME ONE - Lost 20-9
The Spartans fell behind 3-0 in game one, but scored 2 in the 4th to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Roadrunners responded with 2 in the bottom half of the 4th and 7 in the 5th to take a commanding 12-2 lead, that they would not surrender. The Roadrunners finished with 20 runs on 21 hits, while the Spartans managed 9 runs on 10 hits.
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) took the loss for Northampton, allowing 12 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits over 4.2 innings, striking out 5.Â
Logan Magdits (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) and
Joey Cook (Emmaus, PA/Agora Cyber) finished off the final 3.1 innings, allowing 8 runs on 11 hits.Â
Ratti and
Luis Beato (Bethlehem, PA/Muhlenberg) each had 3 RBI, with Beato adding a homerun.Â
Alexander Ruiz (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey),
John Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) and
Manuel Barroso (Puerto Rico/Beltran Academy (PR)) each had 2 hits for Northampton.Â
GAME TWO - Lost 15-2
In a winner-take-all game two, the Roadrunners jumped on Northampton, taking an 8-0 lead after 4 innings and cruised to the 15-2 victory and the Region 19 / North Atlantic District championship.Â
Ben Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) suffered his first loss of the season on the mound, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits over 3.1 innings of work.Â
Mason Sgarlat (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West)Â allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and
Logan Magdits (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) went the final 4.2 innings, giving up 7 runs (5 earned), striking out 2.Â
