Men's Soccer Wins 4th Straight, Downs Lehigh Carbon 9-0

SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team picked up their 4th consecutive victory on Tuesday afternoon, downing Lehigh Carbon Community College, 9-0, at the Cougar Soccer Plex, improving to 19-1-1 all-time vs. the Cougars.

Gershon Bangura (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle) opened the scoring for the Spartans, heading a corner kick from Elijah Ejiofor (Gonesse, France/Pocono Mt. West) past the Cougar goaltender at the 21 minute mark, to give Northampton a 1-0 advantage.

Bangura scored his 2nd goal with just 2 minutes remaining before halftime, heading in a cross from Moize Baraka (DRC Congo/William Allen) to put Northampton up 2-0 heading into the break.

The Spartans broke open the floodgates over the final 45 minutes, scoring 7 goals, to make the final score 9-0.

Moize Baraka (DRC Congo/William Allen) ended with 4 assists, Elijah Ejiofor (Gonesse, France/Pocono Mt. West) had 4 goals and 2 assists, Gershon Bangura (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle) tallied 2 goals and 1 assist, and Alessandro Castaneda (Cali, Columbia/Easton), Kaden Dowd (Bangor, PA/Bangor) and Carlos Vidal (Lima, Peru/Legane (Peru)) each added 1 goal each to round out the scoring.

"I thought we started a little sluggish," remarked Head Coach Mario Barrantes, "but Gershon did a great job getting his head on those first two goals and in the 2nd half the field really opened for us and the guys did a great job finding the open man."

The win moves Northampton to 4-1 overall, 3-1 in Region 19 and 2-0 in the EPAC.

Lehigh Carbon falls to 2-4 overall, 0-3 in Region 19 and 0-3 in conference play.

Northampton returns home on Saturday to host Ocean County College at 12pm (please note there will not be any livestream for Saturday's contest).
