CARNEYS POINT, NJ - The 14th ranked Northampton men's basketball team fell in overtime to Salem Community College, 91-83, on Saturday afternoon at DuPont Arena.
Salem's Tamir Powell drilled a 3-pointer with 27 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 73 and the Spartans attempt at the buzzer bounced out, sending the contest to overtime.
In the extra session, the Mighty Oaks outscored Northampton 18-10, knocking down 3 of 5 attempts from behind the arc and converting 7 of 11 free throw attempts.
The Spartans, who led 41-31 at intermission after shooting 63% from the field in the opening 20 minutes, cooled off somewhat in the 2nd half, converting 43% of their attempts, but just 2 of 10 three point attempts, after making 3 of 4 in the first half.

Brennan McCarthy, "we had our chances and missed some opportunities, but credit Salem, they worked hard on the boards and made a couple big plays to keep themselves in the game."
Nasir Ruhani (Brooklyn, NY/Eagle Academy (NY)) led Northampton with 21 points,
Ameer Herran (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) had 14 points and 10 rebounds,
Abdul Jackson (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) finished with 16 and
Sebastian Fermin (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East) added 17 points and 3 steals.
The loss drops Northampton to 17-3 overall and 10-3 in Region 19.
Salem, which received votes in the last NJCAA poll, improves to 17-5 overall and 10-3 in the Region.
The Spartans return to the friendly confines of the Arthur L Scott Center on Tuesday, when they host Brookdale Community College at 7pm.
