VINELAND, NJ - The 2025 Northampton Men's Soccer season came to a close on Saturday afternoon, falling on the road to RCSJ-Cumberland 7-1 at the Dukes Soccer Complex.
The Spartans fell behind 1-0 in the 20th minute and the Dukes were able to carry the lead and momentum to add 5 more scores in the 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th and 44th minutes to take a commanding 6-0 lead into intermission. The Dukes added a second half score at the 60th minute to extend their lead to 7-0.
Freshman Midfielder
Joseph Gbenda (Upper Chichester, PA/Chichester) was able to put the Spartans on the scoreboard at the 80 minute mark with his first goal of the season, connecting on a pass from
Luis Moncayo (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Nazareth) to cut the lead to 7-1. Both teams remained scoreless the rest of the match and the Spartans saw their season end with the 7-1 loss.
"Tough loss today," explained Spartans Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "The season obviously didn't go how we wanted but I am proud of our team. They played hard right until the end and that is all we can ask. The scoreboard doesn't always tell the whole story."
Theo Jenkins (Phillipsburg, NJ/Nazareth) recorded 11 saves for the Spartans in the loss.
The Spartans conclude their season at 2-11-2 overall and 2-11-2 in Region 19.
The Dukes improve to 7-7-1 overall and 7-7-1 in the Region.
