Mason Fox Goes 2-2 in 141 Bracket Bob Quade Cyclone Open

Spartans Takes Part In Bob Quade Cyclone Open

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - The Northampton Men's Wrestling team took part in the Bob Quade Cyclone Open on Sunday afternoon at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center on the campus of Centenary University.

The Spartans, participating in their second Open tournament of the season, saw sophomore Xavier Arner (Schnecksville, PA/Whitehall) go 3-1 on the day and secure a 3rd place finish at 149. Freshman Mason Fox (East Stroudsburg, PA/Lee Academy) finished 2-2 at 141 while Cesar Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) picked up a win by Fall over Richie Savioa from University at Albany in the consolation round of the 165 bracket. Joel Guerrero (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) topped Alex Starace from University at Albany by Fall at 125 in the consolation bracket.

"Good test and showing by some of our wrestlers today," stated Spartans Head Coach Nick Haegele, "It is always good to see us get on the mat and this was a good opportunity for our wrestlers and our program. We look forward to getting back on the mat next weekend in Long Island."

Sophomore Xavier Arner (Schnecksville, PA/Whitehall) was the standout with the 3rd Place finish for the Spartans in the 149 bracket. Arner received a BYE into the quarterfinals where he took care of Stuart Glover from Rutgers University Club with a 16-5 Major Decision. Arner fell in the semi-finals against Joseph Innamorato from Centenary University by Technical Fall, 19-2, before rebounding with a 21-19 decision over Vincent Cappone of UCNJ in the consolation semi-finals. Arner defeated Glover again in the consolation finals, 11-3, for the 3rd Place Finish.

Mason Fox (East Stroudsburg, PA/Lee Academy) picked up a 10-0 major decision win over Sebastian Romero from New Jersey City University in the round of 16 at 141 and rolled to a 14-5 quarter-final win over Michael Walls (Unattached) to advance to the semi-finals. Fox fell in the semi-finals against Justin Fearon from Felician University before losing in the consolation semi-finals to Justin Baeza from UCNJ (Unattached).

The Spartans will be back on the mat on Saturday, December 13th when they travel to Garden City, NY to take part in the Nassau Open at Nassau Community College.
