BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team lost in the North Atlantic District Championship game on Saturday, falling to top-seeded Union County College, 95-74, at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Owls shot 54% from the field for the game, including a 7 for 13 performance from behind the arc, to down the Spartans, who had defeated the Owls 77-70 on February 15th in Cranford, NJ. "Credit Union, they came in here today and played a great game," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "they are long and talented and today they shot the ball extremely well, which makes them very difficult to beat."
Nasir Ruhani (Brooklyn, NY/Eagle Academy (NY)) led the Spartans with 24 points, while
Abdul Jackson (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) had 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Spartans struggled from behind the arc, connecting on only 2 of 12 attempts.
Northampton, which was ranked 12th in the last NJCAA National Poll, falls to 23-6 and will now wait to see if they are selected for one of the four at-large bids for the NJCAA National Tournament.
Union improves to 23-4 and receives an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Tournament in Herkimer, NY, March 12th - 15th.
