BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Men's Soccer team hosted the 3rd ranked Cougars of Camden County College on Saturday, slipping to 0-2 on the young season, following a 6-1 setback at the Spartan Soccer Complex
The Spartans took a quick lead in the opening minute as freshman
Santiago Rivas (Pereira, Columbia/Liceo Euroamericano) took a lead pass from
Mohamed Hassanali (Macungie, PA/Emmaus), scoring on a breakaway 26 seconds into the contest to put the Spartans on top, 1-0. The Cougars answered with 3 goals to take a 3-1 lead into halftime, and sealed their first win of the season with three second half goals to shut the door.
The first half goal for
Santiago Rivas (Pereira, Columbia/Liceo Euroamericano) was his second of the year, scoring in back to back games to open the season for the Spartans.
Theo Jenkins (Phillipsburg, NJ/Nazareth) collected 6 saves in the tough loss.
"Tough loss against a very talented squad," explained Spartans Head Coach
Mario Barrantes. "we have a lot to work on, and we will."
Northampton falls to 0-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in Region 19.
Camden improves to 1-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in Region 19.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Cranford, NJ to take on the Union County Owls at 6:30pm.
