NEWTON, NJ - The nationally ranked Northampton men's basketball team opened the second half of the season with a Region 19 road win over Sussex County Community College on Saturday afternoon, 90-70, at the Skylander Arena.
The Spartans jumped out to a 13 point lead at halftime, 34-21, and outscored the Skylanders in a much more offensive second half, 56-49, to cruise to the 20 point win.
"Good to get out on the floor and open the second half with a win," explained Spartans Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "It took a bit to get going but once we found our groove I was pleased with the effort. We have a tough stretch coming up so we will take this and get ready to get to work for the week ahead."
Sophomore
Aiden Brown (Philadelphia, PA/Math Civic and Science Charter) led the offense with 21 points, shooting 9-13 (69%) from the floor, while also collecting 9 rebounds. Point Guard
Terrence Cobb (Chester, PA/STEM Academy) hit for 17 points with 7 rebounds and dished off 6 assists. Cobb was also 7-8 from the free throw line.
Jahad Marable (Philadelphia, PA/Science Leadership Academy - Beeber) chipped in with 14 points and 6 assists and sophomore forward
Lamaj Mapp (Darby, PA/Penn Wood High School) contributed 11 points and 4 rebounds.
The Spartans, ranked 5th in the most recent NJCAA national poll, improve to 14-1 overall and 9-0 in Region 19.
Sussex falls to 5-13 overall and 3-11 in Region 19 with the loss.
Northampton is back on the floor on Tuesday, January 13th when they host Atlantic Cape Community College at 7pm at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
