HARRISBURG, Pa. - The nationally ranked Northampton Men's Basketball team visited the state capital on Thursday evening for a Region 19 contest with host Harrisburg Area Community College and stormed past the Hawks in a dominating, 85-53, win at the JW Evans PE Center.
The Spartans and Hawks traded blows in the first half with the Spartans holding a 10 point lead into the intermission, 37-27. The Spartans regrouped and took complete control of the contest from the opening tip of the second half, outscoring the Hawks, 48-26, and cruising to the lopsided 32 point win, 85-53.
"Good win on the road tonight," commented Spartans Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "It looked like we had a battle early and then we started to separate right before we went into the locker room at the half. We made some adjustments and refocused where needed and put together a strong second half to put the game away."
The Spartans had four players in double-figures with sophomore guard
Jahad Marable (Philadelphia, PA/Science Leadership Academy - Beeber) taking the lead with a 20 point scoresheet along with 2 steals and 3 assists. Marable was 7-9 (78%) from the floor and 2-3 from three-point range.
Kevin Rucker (Philadelphia, PA/Monsignor Bonner Prendergast) continued his steady play with 19 points and 6 rebounds and point guard
Terrence Cobb (Chester, PA/STEM Academy) chipped in with 11 points and 3 assists. Sophomore forward
Lamaj Mapp (Darby, PA/Penn Wood High School) contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds and freshman guard
Julian Bair (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg High School) added 8 points and a team high 14 rebounds.
Sebastian Fermin (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East High School) scored 8 points.
Northampton improves to 17-2 overall and 11-1 in Region 19.
Harrisburg falls to 3-14 overall and 2-8 in the Region.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday, January 24th when they visit New Rochelle, NY to take on nationally ranked (RV) Monroe College-Bronx in a non-conference match-up at 1pm at the Monsignor Scanlon Gymnasium.
