BLACKWOOD, NJ - The Northampton men's basketball team suffered an early season setback at the hands of Camden County College on Saturday afternoon, falling short against the Cougars, 80-68, in a non-league match-up on the road at the Joseph Papiano Gymnasium.
Northampton fell behind early in the first half and trailed, 44-34, heading into the intermission. Northampton and Camden battled back and forth through the second half, as the Cougars outscored the Spartans by 2 points, 36-34, but it was just enough to keep the Spartans from closing the gap and getting behind a second half rally, as Northampton fell short, 80-68.
"Tough battle on the road today," explained Spartans Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "We came out flat to start the game today and that hurt us right away. I felt we battled in the second half but give Camden credit as they kept matching shots and that put us back on our heels. We just need to keep working and eventually we will get through some injuries and find our flow and find our way. We just aren't there yet."
Sophomore
Talasi Henderson (Philadelphia, PA/Imhotep Charter) led the Spartans with 13 points and
Shermar Killen Jr. (Muhlenberg, PA/Muhlenberg) chipped in with 12 to lead the offensive effort.
Artemus Sirleaf (Darby, PA/Upper Darby) added 12 points while
Dom Arguelles (West Reading, PA/Wyomissing Area) and
Julian Bair (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) each contributed 7 points in the tough loss.
Northampton is now 1-2 overall.
Camden improves to 2-0 overall following the win.
Northampton is back in action on Tuesday, November 10th when they host Community College of Philadelpis in an EPAC showdown at 7pm at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
