Xavier Arner Defends District Championship at 149

Sencee Dikenah Finishes in 3rd Place at 285

SCRANTON, Pa. - Xavier Arner (Schnecksville, PA/Whitehall) captured his second consecutive NJCAA District Championship at 149 after defending his title at Lackawanna College on Saturday afternoon at the NJCAA Gulf Atlantic District Championships. Freshman Sencee Dikenah (Swarthmore, PA/Ridley) finished in 3rd place at 285. 

Arner, seeded 1st at 149, scored a Technical Fall (17-2) over Joseph Rogers (Camden County College) in his opening match, then recorded a Decision (10-4) over Charles Perrin (RCSJ-Gloucester) to advance to the 149 Finals. Arner defeated Noah Obinna (Garrett College) by Decision (10-5) to capture the 149 championship.

Dikenah, seeded 3rd at 285, defeated Joseph Piazza (RCSJ-Gloucester) by Fall (1:35) to advance to the Semi-Finals. Dikenah was defeated in the Semi-Finals by Elijah Boston (Garrett College) by Decision (4-2), and bounced back in the Semi-Final consolation with a win over Joel Marchand (Andrew College) by Major Decision (10-1). Dikenah claimed his 3rd Place finish with a Decision (7-2) over Garrett Gayle (Camden County College).

The Spartans finished in 10th place as a Team with 40 Points in only their second season of NJCAA competition.

Also representing the Spartans in the NJCAA Gulf Atlantic Championships on Saturday were Joel Guerrero (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) (125), Derek Cruz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) (141), Shane Moser (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) (157) and Kristopher Xian (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove Area) (165).

Kristopher Xian (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove Area) was (1-2) in the 165 Bracket, defeating Spencer Risser (Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology) by Fall (1:30) in his opening match.

Xavier Arner (Schnecksville, PA/Whitehall) (149) and Sencee Dikenah (Swarthmore, PA/Ridley) (285) both qualify to represent Northampton at the NJCAA Men's Wrestling Championships scheduled for March 6th and 7th at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
