NEWTOWN, Pa. - The Northampton baseball team stayed red hot as the Spartans scored 29 runs on 21 hits in a, 29-13, win over Bucks County Community College on Thursday afternoon at the Centurion Baseball Facility.
The Spartans, who have scored 60 runs in their last 3 games, jumped all over the Centurions in the first inning and never looked back, cruising to the non-conference victory.
Shane Henrick (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) got Northampton rolling in the top of the first inning when he blasted his first home run of the year, a grand slam over the left center field fence, to put the Spartans ahead, 4-0. The Spartans proceeded to score in every inning, putting up a season high 29 runs, in a game that was called for darkness after the bottom of the 6th inning.
"Really pleased with the way our offense has produced as of late and the way things have clicked for us," stated Spartans Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "We have things going in the right direction right now. Everyone is involved and we are playing good defense and our pitchers have done their job to keep us in games. Plus, the bats have been outstanding. We will keep working with hopes to continue to improve every time out. Very good overall day today."
Jared Diefenbach (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) improved to 3-0 on the season, pitching the first three innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.
Carver Perrone (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown),
Matt McGaughey (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) and
Ryan Speers (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) followed on the mound and all saw work in relief.
Sophomore outfielder
Shane Henrick (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) was 2-3 with 3 runs scored a grand slam home run and 5 RBI to lead the 21 hit attack.
Drew Mulligan (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) was 2-2 with a solo home run and
Lukas Cokely (Montrose, PA/Montrose) was 1-3 with a home run, his 3rd of the season, and knocked in 3 runs.
Zack Schaedel (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) was 3-4 with two doubles and 2 RBI and
John Pushkar (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) was 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI.
Northampton improves to 11-7 overall with the non-conference victory.
Bucks County Community College slips to 4-8 overall with the loss.
The Spartans will be on the road on Friday when they travel to Delaware County Community College for game one of their Region 19 series scheduled for 3:30pm at Phantoms Field.
