BETHLEHEM, PA - The Northampton baseball team suffered a, 23-6, setback at the hands of #1 RCSJ-Gloucester in game one of their two game mid-week series on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Park.

"Tough one today," explained Spartans Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "We need to be better and we know it. This got away from us early and we just couldn't overcome the hole we found ourselves in. We need to learn from it and quickly move on."

The Roadrunners jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with 3 runs and the Spartans responded with 2 runs after the bottom of the second inning for a 3-2 game after two innings. That was as close as the Spartans would get as the Roadrunners erupted for for 20 more runs over the next 5 innings to put the game out of reach.

Gavin Panovec (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) suffered the loss on the mound to fall to (2-2) on the year. Ben Moretz (Allentown, PA/William Allen) and Sam Erschen (Northampton, PA/Northampton) both saw innings in relief for the Spartans.

Joey Richards (Bath, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) was 3-4 with a home run and 2 RBI and Josh Brancy (Sparta. NJ/Sparta (NJ)) was 2-4 with 2 RBI for the Spartans. Kyle Stoner (Burlington Township (NJ)/Burlington Township (NJ)) was 1-3 with a run scored and a double and Danny Qualteria (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was 1-4 with a solo home run as the Spartans were limited to 7 hits in the hard luck loss.

Northampton slips to 14-8 overall and 8-3 in Region 19.

RCSJ-Gloucester improves to 17-4 overall and 14-1 in the Region.

The Spartans and Roadrunners are scheduled to play again on Wednesday at 3:30pm at the Roadrunners Baseball Complex to complete the Region 19 two game mid-week series.
