AUGUSTA, NJ - The Northampton baseball team exploded for 16 runs on 17 hits to take down NJCAA DII Sussex County Community College, 16-10, in a non-conference match up on Wednesday evening at historic Skylands Stadium.
Josh Brancy (Sparta. NJ/Sparta (NJ)) spearheaded the offensive attack for the Spartans, going 5-6 with a triple plus 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.
Danny Qualteria (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was 2-5 with a stolen base and a double and 2 RBI and
Joey Richards (Bath, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) was 2-4 with a double.
Matthew Tankred (East Greenville, PA/Southern Lehigh) was 2-5 with a double and an RBI and
Drew Mulligan (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) collected 3 hits and knocked in 4 runs in the win.
Brad Rissmiller (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) picked up the win in relief, improving to (1-1) with 2 scoreless innings of work with 3 strikeouts.
Juan Cruz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) pitched a scoreless inning with 3 strikeouts and
Ben Moretz (Allentown, PA/William Allen) saw 1 inning and fanned 2 to shut the door in the 9th inning.
"Good win today against a very offensive team," explained Spartans Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "Sussex gave us fits last week and it was good to see us bounce back tonight and get the win. They are a very good hitting ball club and i was pleased with the efforts we got tonight on the mound. It was also good to see our bats getting going again. That will be a key for us down the stretch."
The Spartans improve to 21-12 overall with the win over the Skylanders.
Sussex County Community College falls to 21-14.
Northampton is back on the field on Friday when they open their Region 19 series with Atlantic Cape Community College at 3:30pm at Spartan Park.
