MAYS LANDING, NJ - The Northampton baseball team split their Region 19 doubleheader with Atlantic Cape Community College, winning game one, 17-0, and falling in game two, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Buccaneers Baseball Complex.
The Spartans win the Region 19 series over the Buccaneers, 2-1.
GAME ONE - Won 17-0
Nate Unger (Allentown, PA/Parkland) improved to 4-0 on the mound, firing 5 shutout innings allowing only two hits, while striking out 6 with no walks for the victory.
Isaiah Sack (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) pitched two scoreless innings in relief allowing only 1 hit with 2 strikeouts.
The Spartans offense scored 17 runs on 17 hits, led by 3-3 efforts at the plate by both
Danny Qualteria (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and
Josh Brancy (Sparta. NJ/Sparta (NJ)). Qualteria scored 4 runs and stole 2 bases and Brancy had a pair of doubles and knocked in a team high 6 runs.
Drew Mulligan (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) was 4-4 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI and
Kyle Stoner (Burlington Township (NJ)/Burlington Township (NJ)) was 2-5 with 3 RBI.
GAME TWO - Lost 4-3
Trailing, 3-0, in the top of the 7th inning, the Spartans were able to plate three runs to tie score at, 3-3.
Max Landis (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) delivered the 2 run double to make the score, 3-3, and give the Spartans some life with 1 out. Landis was stranded on second base as the eventual go ahead run. With two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the 7th inning, Atlantic Cape struck with a walk-off home run to steal the, 4-3, win over the Spartans.
Ryder Hertzler (East Earl, PA/Garden Spot)Â pitched the first six innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, with 8 strikeouts for the no-decision.
Gavin Panovec (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) suffered the hard luck loss in relief. Panovec falls to 2-5.
Northampton is now 23-13 overall and 14-7 in Region 19.
Atlantic Cape Community College is 4-20 overall and 4-20 in the Region.
The Spartans are back on the field on Tuesday when they host #12 Middlesex College in a single 9 inning match up at 3:30pm at Spartan Park.
