Baseball Win Streak at 6, Sweep Montgomery for EPAC Championship

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The nationally ranked Northampton baseball team extended their win streak to 6 games on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from Montgomery County Community College, 13-7 and 20-8, winning the Region 19 series over the Mustangs and capturing their 9th EPAC championship.

"Proud of our squad and how we have played as of late," stated Spartans Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "This has been a tough stretch and it still is not over. We had two tough battles with Bergen and Montgomery and now have to get ready to play Camden this weekend. A lot is still ahead of us and I feel our team is ready to keep battling."

The Spartans, ranked 12th in the most recent NJCAA national poll, scored 50 runs in three games to sweep the Region 19 series over the Mustangs, 3-0.

GAME ONE - Won 13-7

The Spartans broke open a, 3-3, game in the bottom of the 5th inning, scoring 7 runs, highlighted by a Lukas Cokely (Montrose, PA/Montrose) 3 run pinch hit home run, to put the game out of reach.

Drew Mulligan (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) was 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored and Josh Brancy (Sparta. NJ/Sparta (NJ)) was 1-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Lukas Cokely (Montrose, PA/Montrose) was 2-2 with a home run and 4 RBI. Danny Qualteria (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was 2-2 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Matthew Tankred (East Greenville, PA/Southern Lehigh) was 1-3 with 3 RBI.

Ben Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) improved to (2-1) in relief of starter Gavin Panovec (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth), firing 1 inning and recording 1 strikeout. Nate Unger (Allentown, PA/Parkland) and Jayson Ehrhart (Phoenixville, PA/Spring-Ford) both pitched 1 inning in relief of Mostosky.

GAME TWO - Won 20-8

The Spartans offense continued to fire on all cylinders, scoring 20 runs on 15 hits, to take down the Mustangs in game two, 20-8.

Max Landis (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) was 3-3 with a home run and 5 RBI to lead the Spartans offense. Drew Mulligan (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) chipped in with a 3-4 effort at the plate with a triple. Catcher Patrick Kiefner (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) was 2-3 with a triple and Kyle Stoner (Burlington Township (NJ)/Burlington Township (NJ)) had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI. Matthew Tankred (East Greenville, PA/Southern Lehigh) was 1-1 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Carver Perrone (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) picked up the victory and improved to (3-0) on the season, firing 3 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs and striking out 3. Brad Rissmiller (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) and Isaiah Sack (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) both saw work in relief.

Northampton improves to 30-14 overall and 21-8 in Region 19.

Montgomery County Community College falls to 17-14 overall and 17-14 in the Region.

The Spartans are back on the field on Friday when they travel to Blackwood, NJ to open their Region 19 series with Camden County College at 3pm at the Cougars Baseball Complex.
