BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton baseball team fell to NJCAA DII Sussex County Community College on Wednesday afternoon in a high scoring non-conference match-up, 23-10, at Spartan Park.
The Spartans allowed 23 runs on 15 hits while committing three errors and issuing 11 walks in the tough luck loss.
"Rough one today," stated Spartans Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "We were not good today in a handful of areas and we just need to be better. It is that simple. We have a big weekend ahead of us and need to learn from this and turn the page."
The Spartans jumped out to a, 3-0, lead after the 1st inning.
Aiden Pearson (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) highlighted the inning with a 2 run single to left field.
The Skylanders answered with three runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead, 4-3. Northampton came back to score three runs in the bottom half of the third inning on RBI singles by
Danny Qualteria (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and
Josh Brancy (Sparta. NJ/Sparta (NJ)) and jumped out in front again, 6-4.
The visiting Skylanders erupted for 10 runs in the top of the 5th inning and put the game out of reach to cruise to the 10-run mercy rule win over the Spartans.
Northampton is now 17-11 overall following the loss.
Sussex improves to 18-12.
The Spartans are on the road this Friday when they open their Region 19 series with RCSJ-Cumberland at 12pm at the Dukes Baseball Complex.
