Men's Soccer Falls at Brookdale, 6-1

LINCROFT, NJ  - The Northampton men's soccer team fell to host Brookdale Community College in Region 19 action on Saturday afternoon, slipping to 0-1-1 on the young season, following a 6-1 setback at the Jersey Blues Soccer Complex.

The Spartans fell behind midway through the 1st half, surrendering goals at the 30 and 35 minute mark, and found themselves trailing at halftime, 2-0.

The Jersey Blues extended their lead with two quick scores to open the second half, extending their lead to, 4-0, and the Spartans were unable to answer.

"We fell behind with two quick scores mid-way through the first half and the two early scores in the second half just made things real difficult for us," stated Spartans Head Coach Mario Barrantes, "We had some breakdowns on defense, and it cost us today."

Brookdale scored again in the 65th minute to extend the lead to , 5-0, before the Spartans were able to get on the board with a goal by sophomore Mohamed Hassanali (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) that was assisted by Givanchy Durandisse (Easton, PA/Wilson). The goal by Hassanali was his first of the season for the Spartans.

Brookdale closed out the scoring with a final tally with 5 minutes remaining in the contest.

Martin Severo (Allentown, PA/William Allen) and Theo Jenkins (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) split time in goal for Northampton. Severo faced 10 shots and made 6 saves. Jenkins made 4 saves during his time in net.

The Spartans slip to 0-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in Region 19.

Brookdale improves to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the Region.

The Spartans are back on the field on Tuesday, September 1st when they host the Roadrunners of RCSJ-Gloucester in Region 19 action at 4pm at Spartan Field.
