PATERSON, NJ - The NCC men's basketball team saw their 3-game winning streak come to an end, falling to Passaic County Community College, 103-93, on Tuesday night.
The Spartans were down 11 at the half, thanks in part to the hot shooting of Passaic's Richard Ortiz (25 points), who hit 5 3-pointers in the first half. Down 18 early in the second half, the Spartans fought back to within 5 points with 3:48 remaining in the contest, but Passaic was able to convert free throws down the stretch and earn the victory.
"We put together a good run in the second half," remarked Head Coach Kevin Foley, "but we got ourselves in too big of a hole ... we came out flat and allowed Passaic to set the tempo."
Josh Vargas led all scorers with 36 points, while
Elliot Gumbs and Richard Hollinger chipped in with 12 points each.
NCC, now 3-4 overall and 1-1 in Region XIX, are off until Saturday November 28th when they host Gloucester County College at 3:00pm.
