BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC men's basketball team battled back from an 8-point deficit in overtime to tie the game at 86 with 36.7 seconds remaining, but Tamon Cambell hit a runner to lift Union County College to an 88-86 victory on Tuesday night.
The Spartans, who fell behind 14-2 to start the game, fought back to the tie the game at 73 when
Josh Vargas hit a layup with 3.6 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
Northampton, which fell to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in Region XIX, was led by Vargas who scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Brian Smith added 17 points and Richard Hollinger netted 14 to pace the Spartan offense.
"I was very happy with how the kids competed," remarked Head Coach Kevin Foley, "I thought they played hard, we just need to learn to play a little smarter and make better decisions in key situations."
The Spartans travel to Sussex County Community College on Thursday for a 7:00pm matchup with the Skylanders.
