BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC men's basketball team put on a valiant effort, but in the end the size and depth of #1 ranked Bergen Community College proved to be too much, as the Bulldogs pulled away late in the second-half for a 104-84 victory.
The Spartans went to the locker room at halftime down only three points, 48-45, and stayed within striking distance the entire second, tying the game at 71 with nine minutes remaining in the contest.
"The kids gave a great effort," stated Head Coach Kevin Foley, "we just really hurt ourselves with turnovers and at the foul-line, but you have to credit Bergen, they are ranked number one for a reason."
Josh Vargas scored 24 points and grabbed 5 rebounds,
Elliot Gumbs added 16 points and Richard Hollinger recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds for the Spartans.
Bergen, which improved to 10-0, was led by Elgin Brown with 29 points.
Northampton, now 4-7 overall and 2-4 in Region XIX, travels to Middlesex County College on Thursday for a 7:00pm tip.
