Baseball Set to Host Dukes

Spartans need sweep to qualify for postseason

BETHLEHEM, PA - The opportunity for postseason play for the Northampton baseball team comes down to this ... win two vs. Cumberland and you are in.

The Spartans, 7-11 overall and 6-8 in Region XIX, after yesterday's losses to nationally-ranked Gloucester County  College, must sweep the Dukes today at Spartan Field to achieve a .500 record in league play and become playoff eligible.

Head Coach Adrian Yaguez loves the fact that the Spartans control their own destiny, "It is up to us," stated the first year skipper, "we don't have to rely on anyone else to beat someone ... we simply need to go out and play 14 good innings of baseball on Sunday and earn ourselves a playoff spot."

Qualifying for the postseason in Region XIX would a be tremendous accomplisment for NCC, who is in its first season of NJCAA and Region XIX competition.  "For a first year team to have the opportunity to qualify for postseason in a region that includes national powers such as Brookdale, Gloucester and Camden speaks volumes about our coaching staff and our players," remarked Director of Athletics Troy Tucker, "these guys have worked tremendously hard and are this close to achieving the lofty goal they set for themselves back in the Fall."

Game time on Sunday is 1pm.
