BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Freshman
Josh Vargas scored 29 points, but it wasn't enough as Passaic County Community College defeated Northampton 77-59 on Tuesday night in a Region XIX matchup.
The Spartans, who trailed 37-23 at halftime, cut a 20 point second-half deficit to 6 points with eight minutes remaining, but the Panthers went on a 14-2 run to earn the victory.
"Give Passaic credit, they are very athletic and played good defense," said Head Coach Kevin Foley, "we need to get stronger with the ball, but I give our guys credit for fighting back ... they didn't quit."
Courtney Thomas scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds for NCC, while
Kyle McCauley added 4 points and 4 assists.
Northampton falls to 8-9 overall and 6-6 in Region XIX.
The Spartans travel to Union County College on Thursday for a 6:00pm contest.
Obinna Enemuo led Passaic with 18 points.
