CRANFORD, NJ - Ike Robinson's 3-pointer with 50 seconds remaining gave Northampton an 80-71 lead and the Spartans held on down the stretch for an 82-73 victory in Region XIX basketball action on Tuesday night.
NCC, which led 34-32 at halftime, extended the lead to 58-38 midway through the second half, but Union cut the lead to 77-71 before Robinson's basket put the game out of reach.
"Any win on the road in this Region is a good win," remarked Head Coach Kevin Foley, "we need to learn to put teams away when we have a chance, but give Union credit, they are well coached and don't quit."
Robinson finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds,
Al Blount had 18 points and 6 assists,
Ralph Padilla added 16 points and a team-high 12 boards and
Josh Vargas finished with 15 to lead NCC.
The Spartans, who improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in Region XIX, travel to Gloucester County College on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Roadrunner Classic. Friday night's game vs. Gloucester will count in the regional standings.
