MAYS LANDING, NJ - The 2009-10 campaign came to close for the NCC men's basketball team on Thursday night with a 2-0 forfeit victory over Atlantic Cape Community College.
The game was declared a forfeit victory for the Spartans due to the absence of officials for the contest. An oversight by athletic officials at Atlantic Cape led to an error in scheduling, thus no officials were assigned to the game.
"I was very happy with our defensive effort tonight," quipped Head Coach Kevin Foley, "but all kidding aside, no one wants to win like this, the kids want to play, the coaches want to coach ... it was just an unfortunate situation."
The victory puts NCC's final record at 11-16 overall and 9-13 in Region XIX.
"Overall I am pleased with our first season of NJCAA competition," remarked Foley, "obvioulsy we are disappointed about not making the playoffs, but I think we were competitive and proved that we can become a contender in this region."
NCCSPARTANS.COM will be sitting down with Coach Foley next week for his thoughts on the 2009-10 season and his state of the program address as the team looks forward to the 2010-11 campaign.
