MAYS LANDING, NJ - The NCC women's basketball team knew they needed a victory on Thursday night at Atlantic Cape Community College to earn a spot in the Region XIX playoffs next week and extend their season ... little did they know how bizarre the night would be.
The Spartans earned a forfeit victory, due to the absence of officials for the contest. An oversight on the part of athleic officials at Atlantic Cape led to a scheduling error with the ECAC and thus no officials were assigned for the contest.
After consulting with administrative officials from Region XIX, the game was declared a forfeit in favor of the Spartans.
"We obviously didn't drive 2.5 hours each way to get a forfeit win" remarked Director of Athletics
Troy Tucker, "but given the circumstances there were no options. With the seeding meeting scheduled for tomorrow at 1pm, we needed to get the game played tonight."
The victory propels the Lady Spartans to 10-10 in Region XIX and qualifies them for the Regional playoffs in their first season of NJCAA competition.
The Spartans will find out their playoff opponent, date and time on Friday.
