BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC Baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday, falling 6-3 and 15-1 to the top-ranked team in the NJCAA, Gloucester County College.
In game one Joey Bamford went 3 for 4 and Ryan Wyckoff was 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI as the Spartans gave the #1 Roadrunners all they could handle.
Gloucester put two runs on the board in the top of the 3rd and NCC answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Both teams scored two runs in the 5th, giving Gloucester a 4-3 lead and the Roadrunners tacked on two more runs in the 6th to earn the 6-3 victory.
Robert Swift (4-0) earned the victory, striking out ten and walking three.
Jason Pennypacker, three strikeouts and two walks, took the loss to fall to 3-3 on the season.
In game two, Gloucester unleashed their bats, pounding out 20 hits, combined with six Spartan errors, which led to a 15-1 victory.
GCC struck quickly, jumping out to a 10-0 lead after 3 innings, including 2 homeruns by Alexi Colon, a 3-run shot in the 2nd inning and a 2-run bomb in the 3rd. Colon finished 3 for 5 with 5 RBI.
Avery Quinn had a double for the Spartans, who scored their only run in the bottom of the 7th.
Chris Chamberlain took the loss for NCC, falling to 5-2 on the season.
NCC falls to 18-18 overall and finishes 9-9 in Region XIX. The Spartans travel to Raritan Valley Community College on Sunday.
Gloucester improves to 32-1 overall and 18-0 in Region XIX.
