Ocean County's Size Too Much for Spartans

Spartans fell to 9-4 in Region XIX
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Ocean County College used a strong inside game to wear down the NCC men's basketball team and earn a pivotal 88-81 victory in Region XIX action on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans, who led for most of the game, fell behind 77-76 with just under 3 minutes remaining and then watched as the Vikings outscored them 11-5 the stretch to earn the victory.

"This is a disappointing loss," remarked Head Coach Kevin Foley, "take nothing away from Ocean, they are one of the top teams in the Region, but if that is company we want to keep, we need to win this game at home.  We played well in spurts, but poor shooting and a few defensive lapses cost us in the end."

Ike Robinson led NCC with 23 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, while Al Blount added 18 and Tyvon Efferson hauled down a team-high 13 boards.

The Spartans, who entered the game in 3rd place in the Region, fall to 12-7 overall and 9-4 in Region XIX.

The Spartans return to action on January 25th when they host defending Region XIX champion, Bergen Community College.

Jay Clayton had 24 for Ocean which improved to 10-4 in Region XIX.
