BLUE BELL, Pa. - The NCC women's basketball team used a stifling defense to hold Montgomery County Community College to 43 points and earn an 8-point victory in a crucial early season Region XIX matchup on Tuesday night.
NCC led 30-21 at halftime, but three consecutive turnovers after the break allowed the Mustangs to get back into the gam before
Dee Brown and
Halie Cintron scored back to back baskets to regain control for Northampton.
Brown led the Spartans with 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Cintron added 10 points and 7 boards.
"Once again our defense was the key," chirped Head Coach
Art Wolfe, "
Shana Clark (3 blocked shots) did a very solid job defensively and the entire team really stepped up and limited Montgomery's opportunities."
Tiara Aziz had 13 points and 3 steals for Northampton.
The win improves NCC to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in Region XIX.
Montgomery falls to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in Region XIX.
NCC returns to action on Thursday when they host Cumberland County College at 6pm.
