SEWELL, NJ - The NCC women's basketball team won the battle of nationally-ranked teams on Tuesday night, defeating Gloucester County College, 59-45, behind a stifling defensive effort.
The Spartans held NJCAA National Player of the Week Lavon Childress to 14 points, which was 13 below her average. "Obviously our ability to limit Childress was a key to our success," remarked NCC Head Coach
Art Wolfe, "she is a terrific player, but our kids did a good job tonight limiting her touches and forcing others to beat us."
Tiara Aziz scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and
Dee Brown added 13 points as NCC won its 7th consecutive game.
"No question it has been our defense that has carried us," commented Wolfe, "that is definitely one area that we have improved over last year and the kids are really taking pride in it."
Kiersten Young added 11 points and 4 assists off the bench for NCC which improved to 7-2 overall and 6-0 in Region XIX.
The Spartans return to action on December 10th when they travel to Bergen Community College.
Gloucester falls to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
