Tullis Hits Game Winner in OT to Lead Spartans over Cumberland

Jaylonn Tullis goes for a rebound vs. Cumberland
VINELAND, NJ - Freshman Jaylonn Tullis scored on a pick and roll with five seconds remaining in overtime to give the NCC men's basketball team a thrilling 81-79 victory over Cumberland County Community College on Thursday night.

Northampton took a 38-35 lead to the locker room at intermission, but the Dukes behind the strong play of Jimmy Willis (30 points) kept the game close and were able to force overtime, in the last game before holiday break for both teams.

With the score tied at 79 and 5 seconds remaining in the extra stanza, NCC head coach Kevin Foley called a timeout to set up the winning play, "It was a simple pick and roll, but (Ralph) Padilla and Jaylonn executed it to perfection."

Tullis finished the game with 24 points (20 in the second half) and Nick Nickle added 21, including five treys.  Emmanual Brown added 7 assists for the Spartans.

"I think people look at records and make assumptions that certain games are going to be easy," remarked Foley, "it's just not that way ... this is college basketball ... every team in this league is good, you have got to come and play each night if you want to be successful ... no one is going to hand it to you."

The Spartans head into the holiday break on a two-game winning streak with an overall record of 6-9 (5-7 in Region XIX).

Cumberland drops to 3-14 overall and 2-11 in conference play.

Northampton returns to action on January 14th when they travel to Atlantic Cape Community College.
