Baseball Falls to Defending National Champs

SEWELL, NJ - Gloucester County College, the defending NJCAA National Champions, swept a Region doubleheader from NCC on Saturday afternoon, to take over first place in the region standings.

In game one, Matt Spillman threw a complete game one-hitter, to earn his 5th win of the season as the Roadrunners prevailed, 18-0.

Billy Turner's double in the top of the 5th was NCC's only hit.

Talas Mahon (2-1) took the loss, allowing 11 runs (9 earned) in 2 2/3 innings of work.

In game two Wade Geis improved to 4-0 with a complete game 5-hitter as Gloucester routed the Spartans, 12-2.

Tony Gotshall was 3 for 3 with a homerun and Eric Bohem went 2 for 3 to account for all five of the Spartans' hits.

"Simply put, it was a very disappointing afternoon," lamented Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "give Gloucester credit, they are a tremendous team, but I did not feel as though we even competed .... I am disappointed in our lack of toughness."

NCC falls to 20-10 overall and 10-6 in Region XIX.

Gloucester improves to 23-12 and 14-3 in the Region.
