SEWELL, NJ -
Eric Jimenez scored 2 goals, giving him 9 for the season, but it wasn't enough as Gloucester County College downed Northampton, 5-3, in men's soccer on Thursday night.
Gloucester jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game, before Jimenez scored off a through ball from
Tre Cardwell to make it 2-1.
GCC responded with 3 more goals in the first half to take a 5-1 lead at the intermission.
Northampton came out strong in the second half and began to dominate play, scoring two goals, but it was too little, too late for the Spartans, who actually outshot the Roadrunners, 12-7.
Cardwell scored his first collegiate goal off a Nick Trezinowski free kick and Jimenez added his second goal on a late penalty kick to make the final 5-3.
NCC Head Coach Ned Yelovich made a goalie switch in the first half, replacing starter
Jeremie Martinez with
Ty Wissinger, who allowed 2 goals.
"I actually thought we did some nice things on the offensive end today," stated Yelovich, "however our defense continues to give up some soft goals, which you just can't do in this conference if you want to be successful."
The loss drops Northampton to 1-8-1 overall and 1-7-1 in Region XIX.
Gloucester improves to 3-8-0 overall and 2-7-0 in Region XIX.
NCC travels to 4th ranked, and undefeated, Brookdale Community College on Saturday to face the Jersey Blues.
