BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team opened the 2012-13 season with a hard-fought 91-86 victory over Onondaga Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center.
The Spartans were led by sophomores
Jaylonn Tullis, who scored 28 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, and
Dontae Davis, who chipped in with 16 points and 4 assists.
The game was tight throughout, with Northampton opening a ten point lead late in the contest, only to see the Lazers cut the lead to 4 with under 30 seconds to play.
Andrew Miller (9 points) hit a clutch 3-pointer and
Brent Maron (11 points) controlled the offense as the Spartans pulled out the non-conference victory.
"It wasn't a thing a beauty, but we'll take it," commented head coach Kevin Foley, "we obviously have a lot of work to do, but anytime you can get a victory over a quality opponent like Onondaga, you feel pretty good."
Zach Hankerson added 9 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists as Northampton improved to 1-0.
The Spartans return to action Saturday November 10th when they host Tompkins-Cortland Community College at 3pm, as part of a women's/men's doubleheader.
