BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC women's basketball team had five players in double figures as they picked up their 20th win of the season, cruising past Bergen Community College, 77-42, on Saturday afternoon at the Spartan Center Arena.
Dee Brown (Emmaus) scored 19 points to lead Northampton, while
Tiara Aziz (Easton),
Michelle Thomas (Dieruff) and
Kiersten Young (Pen Argyl) each scored 12 points in the victory.
Halie Cintron (Allen) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Spartans took a commanding 38-20 lead to the locker room at halftime en route to the 35 point victory.
"Much quicker start today than we have been seeing," remarked NCC mentor
Art Wolfe, "it really changes the whole complexion of the game when we get going right from the tip. Given the fact that we played without Jahanna Salazar and
Alyssa Gibson, I thought it was a very solid effort against a team in Bergen that was fighting for the playoffs."
Northampton, ranked 8th in the country in the latest NJCAA poll, improves to 20-4 overall and 19-2 in Region XIX.
Bergen falls to 10-13 overall and 8-11 in Region XIX.
NCC will try to lock up the #2 seed for the regional tournament when they close out the regular season on Tuesday vs. Middlesex County College. Game time is 5pm.
