Strong Second Half Leads Spartans to Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Jahron Mathies scored all 15 of his points in the second half to help lead Northampton to a 94-86 victory over Atlantic Cape Community College on Tuesday evening at the Spartan Center.

Hosting their annual Pink Zone event in support of cancer awareness, the Spartans outscored Atlantic 52-40 in the second half to overcome a 4-point halftime deficit and snap their four game losing streak.

"I thought the guys gave a real good effort tonight," commented Head Coach Kevin Foley, "as a coach, you wonder how your team will play when they are out of playoff contention ... Atlantic is a team that is fighting for a playoff spot and had beaten us by 4 back in early January, so for our guys to come out and compete all night and get the victory says a lot about their character."

All-Region candidate Ralph Padilla scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds and Nick Nickle added 17 points to lead NCC.  Emmanuel Brown scored 10 points and had a season-high 9 assists.

Northampton improves to 9-16 overall and 8-14 in Region XIX.

Atlantic Cape falls to 13-14 overall and 12-10 in league play.

Northampton hosts Bergen Community College on Saturday at 2pm.
