BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC Baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader vs. Onondaga Community College on Saturday, falling in extra innings, 11-7, in game one and then taking game two, 11-8.
In game one, NCC led 7-6 entering the 7th inning, but Onondaga rallied to tie the game and then scored 4 runs in the top of the 8th to earn the 11-7 victory.
Jon DeJesus was 2 for 4 with a double, homerun and 3 RBI and
Mike Tenaglia was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored to lead NCC.
Pat Janecki (0-1) took the loss in relief, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) in the 8th inning.
In game two,
Preston Koehler (2 for 3) ripped a bases loaded single to score 2 runs and
Kyle Dauscher followed with a 2 RBI triple, as NCC scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Onondaga responded with 3 runs in the top of the 2nd to cut the margin to 6-5, but the Spartans were able to add 5 more runs to get the much needed 11-8 victory.
Kyle Farnholtz (1-0) earned the victory in relief of
Talas Mahon (3 innings pitched, 7 hits, 7 earned runs, 3 BB, 2 K's), allowing only 3 hits and 1 run over 4 innings of work.
Luke Szoke was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
"Another inconsistent day," remarked Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "we just can't find our stride yet, we do some really good things, but we are not putting together a consistent effort in terms of hitting, pitching and fielding ... we are typically getting 2 of the 3 each game, but not all three at the same time."
NCC moves to 5-9 overall and will open their Region XIX schedule on Sunday when they host Union County College at 12pm.
