SYRACUSE, NY - The Mike Kaminski era debuted on Saturday with glowing results, as the first-year mentor led the Northampton men's basketball team to a 94-86 victory over perennial Region III power Onondaga Community College at the OCC Lazer Invitational.
Malcolm Lyles scored 27 points and
Brent Maron added 20 points and 6 assists as the Spartans battled back from a 6-point halftime deficit to earn the 8-point road victory. Lyles and Maron combined to go 6 for 6 at the line down the stretch to seal the victory.
"It was a well played game for this early in the season," commented Kaminski, "It was a matchup of two contrasting styles, as we tried to establish our post game, while Coach Pasiak's troops really looked to their outstanding outside shooters. We were able to get some stops and execute down the stretch in the last four minutes to pull out the win. I thought the guys played with great intensity and effort ... now we need to be able to come back tomorrow vs. Anne Arundel with that same energy."
Jahbri Hargrove added 11 points and
RJ Fletcher had 14 for Northampton (1-0).
