Strong Second Half Leads Northampton to 4th Straight Victory

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Leading 46-42 at halftime, the Northampton men's basketball team outscored Harrisburg Area Community College 53-30 in the second half to earn their 4th consecutive victory with a 99-72 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans increased their lead from 4 to 12 in the first five minutes of the second and never looked back as six players scored in double figures, led by Derek Kulp (Northampton) with 24 points, including six 3-pointers.  Jahbri Hargrove (Norristown) had 12, RJ Fletcher (Allen) 11, Robert Purnell-Joe (Phillipsburg) 11, Tyler Krchnavi (Palisades) 10 and Astin Jones (Parkland) 10.  Hargrove added 9 rebounds and 5 blocks,  point guard Brent Maron (Salisbury) handed out 6 assists and Malcolm Lyles scored 7 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 4 assists and had 2 steals to pace NCC.

"I challenged the guys to rebound the basketball after our lackluster effort on the boards at Stevens," commented Head Coach Mike Kaminski, "and to their credit, they answered the call with 44 boards.  Defensively, we are still not where we need to be, but we did show some improvement after halftime, but we need to continue to improve if we are going to compete for a conference and regional championship."

Northampton improved to 7-2 overall, 4-0 in Region XIX and 5-0 in conference play.

Harrisburg fell to 1-3 overall.

Northampton returns to the hardwood on Tuesday December 3rd when they host conference rival Lehigh Carbon Community College at 8pm at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center.
