NEWTOWN, Pa. - A poor shooting day at the line (9 for 24) by the Northampton men's basketball team helped Bucks County Community College upset the defending EPAC champions, 87-85, on Saturday afternoon at BCCC Arena.
The Spartans, who led 45-44 at the half, fought back from a 9 point second halftime deficit to take a 77-70 lead with five minutes remaining, but BCCC took advantage of some missed shots by Northampton to take an 85-82 lead with 38.4 seconds left in the game, before Northampton's
Derek Kulp (17 points) tied the game with a 3-pointer. Bucks then spread their offense, penetrated and found William Davis who scored the game-winning basket, to give BCCC the upset victory.
"Players win games and coaches lose them," remarked Head Coach Mike Kaminski, "today I made some decisions in the second half that didn't put us in the best possible situation ... I credit our guys for fighting back, but we will all learn from this. Credit Bucks on executing their game plan ... their outstanding shooting kept the crowd in the game, which really provided them with a ton of energy down the stretch."
Tyler Krchnavi had a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds and Jahbri Hargrove added 12 points to pace Northampton.
The Spartans fall to 8-3 overall, 6-1 in conferece and 5-1 in Region XIX with the loss.
Bucks improves to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in conference.
Northampton returns to action on Thursday when they host Division II Mercer County Community College at 7pm.
