LINCROFT, NJ - Down 7 with 3:40 to play, the Northampton men's basketball team battled back to down Union County College, 71-66, to advance to their first-ever Region XIX title game.
Dontae Davis scored 16 points and
Jaylonn Tullis added 16 points and 7 rebounds to lead the Spartans, who won their 20th game of the season.
Malcolm Lyles converted a 3-point play with 2:42 remaining to cut the lead to 63-60 and then a Tullis put back at the 1:13 mark tied the game at 65.
Davis and
Andrew Miller (12 points) each converted one out of two free throws to make the score 67-65 with 24 seconds remaining in the game.
Union converted a free throw to cut the score to 67-66, but the Spartans were able to close out the Owls from the foul line for the 5 point victory.
Northampton will face the winner of the Brookdale vs Camden matchup in the Region XIX championship game on Saturday night at 7:30 at Collins Arena.
