BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Tiara Aziz scored 34 points to lead Northampton to a 68-45 victory over Lehigh Carbon Community College in an EPAC matchup on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center.
Alyssa Gibson had 8 assists and
Felicia Shaner and
Brianna Clymer combined for 22 rebounds as Northampton clinched the 2012-13 EPAC Championship.
"I was anxious about this game," revealed Head Coach
Art Wolfe, "but the girls really came out ready to play and set the tone early. Lehigh Carbon is a very good team, but I thought we did a good job containing their inside game and limiting opportunities."
Aziz moved from 7th to 5th on the all-time scoring list at Northampton, passing
Dee Brown (763) and Pam Dawes (775) with her 34 point outing, giving her a career total of 794, 83 points from career leader Ashley Capozzolo (877).
The 34 points are also the second most ever scored in a single game by a NCC women's basketball player. Mary Mulitsch (1989-91) and Sue Thoder (1994-96) each had 43 point outings during their time as Spartans.
Northampton improves to 21-1 overall and 9-0 in Region XIX / EPAC.
Lehigh Carbon falls to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in conference.
