LINCROFT, NJ - The Northampton men's basketball team (20-8) will face the nation's number one team, Brookdale Community College (29-1), tonight in the Region XIX championship game at 7:30pm at Collins Arena. The winner of tonight's matchup earns an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Tournament at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, NY.
Northampton, the #1 seed from the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference, advanced to the title game with a thrilling 71-66 victory over Union County College on Thursday afternoon. The Spartans rallied from a 17 point deficit to earn their first-ever title game appearance.
Brookdale, the #1 seed from the Garden State Athletic Conference, advanced to their second consecutive title game with a 71-56 victory over Camden County College on Thursday evening.
The Spartans and Jersey Blues met earlier this season in Lincroft, with Brookdale prevailing 86-72 on November 20th.
The matchup is full of star-power, as Brookdale is led by Region XIX Player of the Year Neil Thompson and 2nd Team All-Region selection Amir Gilliam.
Northampton also had two All-Region selections, with
Andrew Miller earning a 2nd team nod and
Jaylonn Tullis being named to the 3rd team.
Northampton and Brookdale were the only two teams in the Region with mulitple players on the All-Region team.
