"City of Brotherly Love" Not So Friendly to Northampton

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Northampton's first trip to the City of Brotherly Love, the home of NJCAA newcomer Community College of Philadelphia, was not a pleasant one, as the Colonials downed the Spartans, 76-54, on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing by 5 with less than five minutes to play before halftime, the Spartans were outscored 11-3 to close the half as Philadelphia took a 38-25 lead into the locker room.

"Way too many defensive breakdowns as we struggled to match their athleticism," lamented Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "couple that with the fact that we shot 34% from the floor, it's pretty difficult to get a positive result on the road."

Michael Samuel scored 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds and Derek Kulp added 8 points and 4 rebounds to pace the Spartans. Point guard Jamaal Aziz dished out 5 assists.

Northampton, now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in Region XIX, returns to action on Tuesday when they host Montgomery County Community College at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center at 7pm.

Philadelphia improves to 4-0 overall with the victory.
