Mustangs Run Past Spartans, 87-59

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs used a pressing defense and a balanced offense to run past the Northampton men's basketball team, 87-59, on Tuesday night at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center.

Mustang Head Coach Denny Surovec (6th season) saw 12 of his 14 players get into the scoring column as Montgomery led from start to finish to improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in Region XIX.

"We continue to struggle offensively, shooting 34% from the field and committing 31 turnovers," remarked Northampton Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "but our effort on the defensive end is even more frustrating ... we can't give up 56 points in a half or allow a team to shoot 51% and expect to win."

Michael Samuel led Northampton with 17 points and also grabbed 8 rebounds, while Justin Escobar added 12 points and 9 rebounds.

The Spartans, who fall to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in Region XIX, return to the hardwood on Thursday when they travel to Thaddeus Stevens College for a 7pm matchup.
